26-01 Dragon Song

Watercolor, 14" x 24"

$1650.00

This watercolor painting is about the joy and camaraderie of four young monks, practicing the Dungchen. The instrument’s low, roaring tone is supposed to resemble the sound of the dragon’s mating call, hence the title of the art.
Context is important, I like to tell a story in my art: the consideration to practice away from the monastery and village, the environment, the majestic Himalayan range and the holy Mt. Kailash.

Technically, I watched edges, chroma, arial perspective, composition and used a vignette to tell the story and used a limited palette, complementing the red robes with the green landscape. I am presenting the watercolor painting in a contemporary setting: mounted on 2 inch cradleboard, edges wrapped in watercolor paper and all sides sealed with several layers of art wax.

This watercolor had been accepted to the Annual Juried Show at the Gallery in the Park, Richland, WA, in July 2026 and won the People's Choice Award.
