Rediscovering my Art
The years 2020 to 2023 will remain in everyone's memory as the "Covid Years". For me, I had retired from my quality assurance career in July 2019. I had some plans that involved renting office space, but by the time I was really ready everything was coming to a stand-still. Being home-bound I concentrated on updating my yard, and I pulled my paints and brushes out, exploring what was still alive of my former skills. Also trying to figure out what to do in this next step of my life.
I took some online classes and just started. The watercolors are all created from photo references. The acrylics were done in a meditation process, completely intuitive.
Enjoy your visit.
23-07 Sleeping Horse, 2023, watercolor on 140lb Fabriano, 11"x14"
My attempt to give an image more context and I used aspects of sequential art to get the message across. What a happy nap this horse is taking.
The detail shot is from the scanner.

23-06 White Horse in Black Paint, 2023, watercolor on 140lb Fabriano, 11"x14"
Work resulted from an online course I took. I choose Lunar Black from Daniel Smith as it gives a granulated appearance when you dilute it. Disadvantage: you can't glaze, the value has to be established on the first try.

22-02 to 05 Blue Tit 1 through 4, 2022, watercolor on 140lb Fabriano, 5"x7"
Birds are a passion of mine - painting as much as observing or even having a pet parrot. My Mom and I raised two of these Blue Tits when I was a kid. They are a hoot.
Blue Tits are a bit smaller than the American Chickadee.
Mandalas, 2020 through 2023, acrylics on 8"x8" canvas.
These mandalas use vibrant acrylic colors, and most often also metallic hues, which do not show up so well in digital photos.
This type of painting is a form of meditation for me. I just start, never with any plan or expectation, and let myself be surprised by the result.

Don't forget to visit the other years in my portfolio and the blog Wolf's Howl.
See you soon.
